Rat Temple ( Karni Mata Temple) : The famous 600 years old temple is situated 30 KM from Bikaner in Deshnok.It is also know to Karni Mata Temple.This temple is dedicated of karni Mata, An incarnation of Goddess Durga. The temple has huge intricately carved silver gates which were donated by Maharaja (King) Ganga Singh.
The most interesting thing about the temple are the rates who scamper freely within precincts. They are regarded as sacred and are fed by priests & devotees owing to the belief that they will be reincarnated in the family of the goddess. The Legend : Legend has it that Laxman, son of Karni mata, drowned in a pond in Kapil Sarovar in Kolayat Tehsil while he was attempting to drink from it. Karni Mata implored Yama, the god of death, to revive him. First refusing, Yama eventually relented, permitting Laxman and all of Karni Mata's male children to be reincarnated as rats.
